Following the successful defense of Dr. Daniele Simeoni in March 2022, six more STIMULATE PhD fellows had successfully defended their thesis in 2022:

  • Gustavo Ramírez, thesis title “Multilevel Algorithms in lattice QCD for exascale machines”  (Bergische Universität Wuppertal, University of Cyprus, Università degli Studi di Ferrara)
  • Guilherme Goedert, thesis title  “Stochastic Modeling of Complex Systems: Applications in Fluid Turbulence and Mathematical Epidemiology”  (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, The Cyprus Institute, Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata)
  • Fabio Guglietta, thesis title "Mesoscale Investigations on the Effects of Membrane Viscosity on Transient Red Blood Cell Dynamics" (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, The Cyprus Institute, Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata)
  • Lokahith Agasthya, thesis title “Reconstruction and modulation of turbulent thermal flows using Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches” (Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, Bergische Universität Wuppertal, The Cyprus Institute)
  • Floriano Manigrasso, thesis title “Direct calculation of Parton Distribution Functions on the lattice” (University of Cyprus, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata)
  • Oscar Palomino-Hernandez, thesis title “Molecular Simulations of Alpha-synuclein and Comparison with Experimental Data”  (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, The Cyprus Institute, Hebrew University of Jerusalem)

The PhD fellows used the 6-months project extension to conclude their research and finish their thesis, leading to a successful defense between April - December 2022. All the fellows will receive a joint PhD degree from three institutes.
